Looking Up Pine Tree Bark: Painting
For my first landscape I shot photos of a tree in my yard. For one of the photos's I took a close up of the tree's bark, because I thought the detailing in the bark was interesting. I wanted to convey that often if we look closer we can see characteristics we didn't know were there. For the other photo I stood a couple feet away from the tree and shot the photo upwards, but not completely so the photo still shows the main trunk of the tree. I thought this photo was interesting because the branches of multiple trees are in the shot and it shows that objects can look really different when you look at them from a different perspective.
Holly Tree Holly Branch: Painting
These photos of a holly tree were taken near my house. For the first photo I went close to the tree so the branches covered most of the frame. I thought the image of the tangled intertwining branches looked interesting and made the viewer feel absorbed in the leaves. For the second photo I tried to get the shape of the leaves to be more defined. I wanted the viewer to notice the shape and how the leaves have little pricks on their corners.
Flowers on Wood Chips Yellow and Green: Painting
For these photos I shot some flowers by my driveway. For the first photo I wanted to get a picture that showed the entirety of one of the plants, with the blooms and green leaves. However, I feel like the wood chips sort of ruin the beauty of the flowers. For the second photo I took a close up of the flower and I wanted the viewer to see the beauty, color, and shape of the flower. I think the first photo helps the second photo because it shows how zooming in makes the flower look a lot better.
Red, Blue and Green Japanese Red Maple
For these photos I really liked how the pine tree behind it really made the red pop. For the first photo I shot the upper portion fo the plant and focused on a piece sticking outward. The blue sky in the first photo also makes the picture look very colorful. In the second photo I went closer to one of the branches, as I thought the figure of it was unlike many of the other plants I took photos of. I wanted to convey the vibrancy of the plants with these photos.
Floating in the Wind Yellow Bush: Painting
For these photos I took pictures of a flowered bush in my backyard. For the first photo I really liked how the branches loo like they're swaying or floating in the wind (it was windy while I was taking the photos). I also liked how the tree in the background is blurred and the attention of the photo is on the yellow flowers. For the second photo I went closer to the plant, to try to get the details of all the branches. I think the painting effect makes it harder to see details, but the blurred togetherness of it is really beautiful. For these photos I wanted to convey a happy spring feeling, as the weather warms up.
